I feel it is weird when I
start writing something that sounds like an introduction for this blog
"Women of Vietnam" at almost the end of it.
Let me start
with the blog's name - Women of Vietnam. Initially, the name I chose was Women
in Vietnam. It was OK but did not sound totally satisfying. The reason why I
picked "of" instead of "in" originated from the fact that I
am now living in a minor immigrant group. Most of them have been outside of
Vietnam for years and years and some do not speak Vietnamese fluently. Yet,
they and I are all Vietnamese. We promote our cultural literacy by practicing
Vietnamese traditions and passing them from generation to generation. As long
as we have the Vietnamese soul, we are Vietnamese, no matter where we live.
Yes, as
is the name, my blog is about Vietnamese women. It was hard for me to narrow
down the topic for this blog. I do not think I am supposed to do so, but I want
my blog to be concentrating (I could not do that at all). I have been
living ignoring, not caring too much about stuff and things. Growing up during
the shifting phase when technology comes out and completely changes how we see
the world, culture to me is a complex mix, hard to decide which I belong to.
I got a
little from Chinese, other little from western. But I really want
something really Vietnamese to be presented here. So I started with the closest
around me: mom, sisters, aunts... Who else or what else can be more Vietnamese
than Vietnamese women. NO.
Through this
blog, I would like to show my honor and respect of all of the Vietnamese women.
I am so grateful for their devotion to our country, to every single man and
child. There is an idiom in Vietnam that "a man builds a house, a woman
makes it home". Without them, we could not have a Vietnamese culture that
we are proud of.
